Thermo Scientific™ Oxoid™ Sabouraud Dextrose Agar is a specialized culture medium used for identifying and cultivating dermatophytes, other fungi, and yeasts from clinical and environmental samples. Its low pH selectively promotes fungal growth while inhibiting bacterial contamination, allowing fungi to maintain their characteristic appearance for easy identification.

This versatile medium is often supplemented with antibiotics (e.g., cycloheximide, penicillin, streptomycin, chloramphenicol) to selectively isolate pathogenic fungi from samples containing abundant bacteria or other fungi. It can also serve as the basis for a Pagano-Levin medium to differentiate Candida albicans.
