This broth leverages Salmonella’s unique ability to thrive in conditions (high osmotic pressure, low pH, malachite green resistance, and minimal nutritional needs) that inhibit other Enterobacteriaceae and many Gram-positive bacteria. Its superior performance over other enrichment broths (except for Salmonella typhi) is attributed to a revised formulation that includes pH buffering and optimized magnesium chloride concentration, enhancing reliability and Salmonella recovery.
