Thermo Scientific™ Oxoid™ Modified Semi-Solid Rappaport-Vassiliadis (MSRV) Medium Base:

This dehydrated medium is designed for the detection of motile Salmonella species from food and environmental samples. MSRV utilizes motility enrichment, allowing Salmonella to migrate through the selective medium, forming opaque growth halos ahead of other motile Gram-negative organisms. Its selectivity is enhanced by novobiocin, low pH, high magnesium chloride, and malachite green, which inhibit Gram-positive flora and competing bacteria. Based on De Smedt et al.’s formulation, MSRV has proven a simple, sensitive, and more effective isolation method than traditional procedures.
